Season 1: When a counter-terrorism raid goes tragically wrong, Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) refuses to participate in a cover-up. Ostracised by his colleagues, he transfers to anti-corruption unit, AC-12, which is in the process of investigating one of the Force's most respected officers, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Gates (Lennie James). Not only has Gates just been awarded Officer of the Year, his squad has returned the best crime figures for three consecutive years. But Arnott is convinced that Gates' results are too good to be true and, determined to expose Gates as a fraud, the two become embroiled in a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse. Every time Gates seems cornered, he finds a way to turn the tables still believing he can save himself. But all the while he's digging a bigger hole for himself, plunging irrevocably into a moral abyss. And each day the stakes get higher. Soon it isn't just careers on the line--its lives.
Season 2: The series opens explosively with the ambush of a police convoy in which three police officers are killed and a protected witness is seriously injured. The sole surviving police officer is Detective Inspector Lindsay Denton (Keeley Hawes).
Deputy Chief Constable Mike Dryden (Mark Bonnar) takes personal charge, asg AC-12 to the case. Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, Detective Constable Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) are ed by newly-appointed Detective Constable Georgia Trotman (Jessica Raine) to investigate a complex case rich in unexpected twists and turns.
Initially AC-12's most valuable witness, the suspicion soon, arises that DI Denton could be their prime suspect.
Season 3: Sergeant Danny Waldron (Daniel Mays) is the highly proficient leader of an Armed Response Unit whose unpredictable behaviour is becoming a threat to colleagues and suspects. When AC-12 are called in to investigate Danny's conduct, even they could find themselves in the firing line.
Season 4: After months of fruitless investigation, DCI Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton) is under intense pressure from her superiors to apprehend a serial killer responsible for the murder of two women. When a third victim is abducted, Roz makes a breakthrough and apprehends the suspect--but the case is far from open-shut. With doubts around the investigation swirling, Chief Forensic Investigator Tim Ifield (Jason Watkins) alerts AC-12 to investigate.
AC-12's Supt Hastings places DS Kate Fleming undercover inside Roz's team to discover the truth. With DS Steve Arnott piling on pressure from the outside, Roz is forced to act decisively. But as suspicions mount and the conspiracy deepen, AC-12 soon finds themselves under threat.
Season 5: When three police officers are shot dead during the hijack of a seized drugs transport, AC-12 move in to investigate possible police collusion. John Corbett (Stephen Graham) is the ruthless leader of an Organised Crime Group who hijack a seized drugs transport. AC-12 investigators Superintendent Ted Hastings, Detective Inspector Kate Fleming and Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott suspect corrupt police officers of leaking information. As the body count rises, AC-12 realise they're facing their most vicious adversary yet.
Season 6: AC-12 are facing their most enigmatic adversary so far: Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald), the senior investigating officer of a high-profile unsolved murder. DCI Davidson, whose unconventional conduct raises AC-12's suspicions and they begin to challenge the facts of the case and question whether she is doing everything in her power to find the perpetrator. The team conducts an urgent investigation, but upheavals within AC-12 itself threaten to tear their work apart.
